Hardware Purchases: Discounts

A gift with a bow on it shown on a computer monitorFor gift-buying and -giving occasions, remember that discounts for UNT students and employees are available and a lot of software you will use is provided by the university at no additional cost.

The University of North Texas has partnered with several manufacturers to provide discounted hardware. The list below is not all-inclusive and discounts from other manufacturers and vendors may be available. The information below is for personally-owned devices. To purchase a computer for university use, contact your local IT support group for information.

UNTS has partnered with several computer manufacturers to provide students, faculty, and staff with discounted hardware. This is facilitated through their education sales sites – and in Apple retail stores for Apple products – for each manufacturer.

For HP, you will need to create an account and provide a registration code, EP17463, in order to see what discounts are available.

The Mainframe is UNT's Apple-authorized campus store. Located on the first floor of the University Union, students and employees can try out the Apple products and purchase them with an educational discount.

Software

 Wordmark for MS Office 365Office 365: Your UNT email address and password not only give you access to UNT services but also to Microsoft Office 365, which includes many popular applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. 

To access these programs on your PC or Mac, sign into your UNT email through webmail, https://webmail.unt.edu, then click on the Office 365 button in the top left corner. You will be redirected to the Office 365 download page, where you will find the "Install Office 2016" button near the top right of the screen "Install software" on Mac.

Download and install or reinstall Office 365, Office 2016, or Office 2013 on your PC or Mac

To access these programs on your iPhone, iPad or Android device, download Word, PowerPoint, and/or Excel from the app store/play store, and when prompted by the app: sign in with your UNT email address and password.

McAfee: UNTS provides all students, faculty, and staff a current copy of McAfee virus scan for Windows and Mac operating systems. A valid EUID and password are required.

 

On The Hub wordmark

 

On The Hub offers students, faculty, and staff discount software options from Adobe, Microsoft, VMware, and more. To make purchases from OnTheHub, students will need to create an OnTheHub account and verify their attendance using their student email address.

The UNT Official Bookstore: Although Barnes and Noble UNT does not feature boxed software in the store, they have partnered with ThinkEDU, also called Barnes and Noble College, to provide students and employees additional options in discount software. ThinkEDU works with UNT to provide discounts, and you are required to create a ThinkEDU account in order to purchase any software.

Employees also have the option to lease software from Microsoft. The software is sold on disc and is available at Barnes and Noble UNT. 

Microsoft Imagine wordmarkMicrosoft Imagine offers development software for Business, Information Technology, Computer Science and Engineering students at no charge. These free programs are the full versions of Visual Studio, XNA Game Studio, Windows Server, and more. To access Imagine, students must create an Imagine account and verify their attendance using their valid student email address.
